Need help recording video on Power Point 2016

Hi, Everyone! I hope that I'm in the right forum!

I would like to record a video within my Power Point 2016 presentation. However, I there is no way to initiate the video camera option, nor is it shown on the dashboard. In fact, the dashboard doesn't look like the dashboard that should appear. I am able to add a video from my computer,  as well as audio narrations, but that is not what I want to do. I am able to record video with sound and take pictures with the webcam that came with my computer, but it is of poor quality.

This YouTube says it all: Issues with Power Point Video. I don't have the options, the screen doesn't look black with settings and there is no video or video options, like this:

My screen, on the other hand looks like this:

Tech support on YouTube said that Power Point 2016 and newer versions should have the first screen and video capabilities, but mine doesn't. He also said that not having these options, including video, is a known issue, and even Microsoft experts don't always have the answer.

I called the tech support guy who installed Office 2016 from my company. He said that his computer, which has the same Power Point 2016 on it shows the correct video screen and capabilities. He even checked to make sure that I have the correct updated version of Power Point, which I do. He said that the problem could be that Power Point is not recognizing my webcam, and that the camera software doesn't have any updates to the drivers -- since 2006. He even looked at HP and his own tech resources for a driver update. (The computer was purchased in 2017 and everything else has been getting updates.)

He suggested that buying an external webcam might solve the issue. Does it? I don't want to spend money on something that won't work, and I am still searching for someone who might have a external webcam that I can borrow.

I have:

Windows 10, Build 19041.329, 64 bit

HP Notebook, Product # Z9G14UA#ABA

Power Point/Office 2016, 32 bit

This is the steps to try and record video within Power Point:

  1. I open to the slide I want to work with.
  2. Select Slideshow/Record Slideshow
  3. It prompts me to select or deselect slide and animation timings, and narration, ink and laser pointer. I am then prompted to start recording. (Note: these options seem to be missing in my tech guy's screen, as well as in versions used on YouTube tutorials. Their screen's go straight to the audio/video dashboard. However, these options are available in versions, like mine, that I have seen on YouTube that show how to do narrations only. But I do not know what versions they have.

Would an external webcam solve the problem? Do I need a 64 bit version of Office?

Any help will be appreciated! I hope everyone is staying safe and well!

I am also having a similar problem. I have PowerPoint for Mac Version 16.39, Microsoft 365. My recording screen looks like this....

Is it possible to record the screen and use the webcam at the same time? The links Rocaw/Bob has posted, link to an article explaining how to record the screen only. But the YouTube tutorial shows how we can record both the slides and the speaker at the same time using Powerpoint.

    Hi,

I experienced a similar problem. I tried record option in slide show but only my voice is getting recorded. The black screen video options are not even available. I updated my office 2016 but still no change. After recording an audio effect comes at the bottom right corner of each slide nothing else. What can i do ?

    Hi again, Bob!

it seems that my Microsoft office updates are tied in with Windows updates. My computer did AN automatic update, which included Office and Skype. However, this did not resolve the video issue.

    Hi Rocaw!

I am doing well, thank you for asking! I hope that you are doing well too!

I tried to find the  update program options on my PowerPoint 2016, but I could not find it. As seen below, my screen does not show the same options that your tutorials do:

I hope that this screen, which was accessed by clicking on the About PowerPoint option, contains the information that you want:

I am not allowed to uninstall the program on my computer as per the request of the company who installed it.

This is the procedure I used to record a video within PowerPoint. Where is the link or page to your guidelines? I didn't see it in your email at my end?

    1. I open to the slide I want to work with.
    2. Select Slideshow/Record Slideshow
    3. It prompts me to select or deselect slide and animation timings, and narration, ink and laser pointer. I am then prompted to start recording. (Note: these options seem to be missing in my tech guy's screen, as well as in versions used on YouTube tutorials.) Their screen's go straight to the audio/video dashboard.
    4. I don't see any video access option on the bottom of the screen.

Thank you so much for offering to help me try to resolve this issue! Have a great day!
