A problem with Syriac fonts in Word

Hello,

I have got a problem in both Word 2016 & 2019 with the Syriac language. Whenever I write a word in any Syriac font (Estrnagelo, Eastern or Western) I see it there as long I keep the file open. After I close and reopen it again, however, it displays strange letters for the Syriac word!

What is the cause of this?

    Does it happen if you open Word in Safe mode?

    Safe mode is not a way to regularly use Word, but it is a valuable diagnostic step. If your problem goes away when you use Safe mode, we can walk you through other steps that may help eliminate the problem. Please write back.

    If it works in safe mode, write back.

    If it does not work in safe mode, First try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)

    I did check that, and found it already unchecked.

    So I don't think that is the cause of the problem.

    Hi

    Since I do not use that font or language, I can only speculate.

    Check whether you have checked the box to Automatically Update Styles (from Template). This is in the Templates and Add-Ins dialog. You can reach this under the Developer Tab by clicking on Document Template or by clicking on Word Add-Ins. You want this unchecked.
