Hi Stanley,

Thank you for sharing the detailed information with us.

For the error message, I found a thread which has the similar issue with yours, and the member solved this error via re-assigning the license, so we suggest that you could also try it out to see the result.

If the problem persists, you can try using the Office 365 for Mac license removal tool to remove all the license on this Mac. And then sign back in the Office application with the edu account. See if issue persist.

How to remove Office license files on a Mac(please sign out all the Office applications first)

Best regards,

Jazlyn

Hi Jazlyn,

Sorry for the delay.

Re-assigning the license works.

I got hold of the admin at my institution, and asked him to remove and re-assign my licenses, and after that I can open office apps, without any error messages.

Thank you so much for your advise and assistance.

Sincerely,

    Hi Jazlyn,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. In office.com, using my account, I can see and use the office applications.
    2. These are what shown on the subscription page:

    1. This is what I get when I opened the installed application (in this case: powerpoint)

    1. I have asked them about this problem, but they don't have any solution. I will ask them to try re-assigning the license.

Looking forward to your advice. Thank you.

    Hi Stanley,

Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Based on your description, after logging into Office which was installed from the portal, a message says that your account does not allow editing on a Mac.

To help you better, could you please provide some information for us?

    1. If you log in Office portal with your account, can you see these Office applications, such as: Word, Excel and PowerPoint?

    1. Please go here to check whether you have " The latest desktop version of Office" license for this account.
    2. Please provide a screenshot of the error message for us.
    3. If you contact your admin, and let him re-assign the license for you, can you edit on the Word for Mac?

    Appreciate your cooperation in advance.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn
