What are the features and what does it do: Submit for approval button

Hi,

I have created a Workflow for my library that has approval flow for when you upload new document. However I have come across this button, all I see that it does is it changes the "Approval status" column to "pending". Do you have to have to incorporate this into you flow or is the button associated with a preset workflow?

It did not help, I do not believe this button is associated to my flow or there is an issue with my flow that does not incorporate the use of the button.

For example,if I reject a document that has been submitted and click the submit for approval button, it will change the approval status to "pending" and not enter my flow (i.e. it will not be sent to the first approver).

    Hi Monica,

When we enable content approval settings in **Library Settings > Versioning settings > Require content approval for submitted items,**when users upload documents to this specific library, the document’s Approval Status is either in:

    • Draft (if minor and major versions are enabled) or
    • Pending (if only the major version is enabled) state

And there’s no Submit for approval button on the ribbon. The ribbon appears as shown below:

As you have configured approval flows from the Flow menu using Power Automate as described in this article, I believed this button is attached to the workflow.

Further, as the workflow is configured with flow and to confirm whether this button is linked with the flow or not, , we’ll suggest you post in Microsoft Power Automate Community for expert assistance. This is a specific channel related to issues with Power Automate/Flow.

The reason we request you to post a new thread is that in Answers forum, we have limited resources and very little knowledge about Microsoft Flow/ Power Automate and in Microsoft Power Automate Community, you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction.

Thanks for understanding. Have a nice day and stay safe.

    With sincerest regards,

    Neha

    Hi Monica,

For any modern SharePoint site, owners can configure document approvals process. After adding a document approval flow, new and updated documents will be not be approved directly. Instead, whenever a change is made to a document, it's put into pending mode and then submitted for approval.

Site owners configure approval flows from the Flow menu of a document’s library. Once the document approval is configured, authors submit them for approval, the submit for approval button arrears.

The document will appear to everyone once it is approved. Rejecting a document will put that document in rejected or draft status. The Submit for approval button is associated with your workflow.

For more information, please check the following article. The article is about page library approval, but the information is same for document library as well.

Let me know if you need any help. Have a nice day and stay safe😊

    Regards,

    Neha
