Legend on chart lines: is it possible?

Hello,

I plot three straight lines on a chart and I name these line f(x), g(x) and h(x) respectively. All works fine and the legend is displayed below the chart. But I would like the legend to display on the chart, by each line, so you can see the function name with the line it describes. Is that possible or do I need a trick with labels?

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Hello CricriYR! I'm Jen, an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

You can try this work-around to move the legends on the chart. Right-click on the line > Add Data Labels > Right-click again and select Format Data Labels > Under the Label options, tick the box beside "Legend Key". Now, double-click on one of the legend keys and edit the text inside the box with the legend title, say "f(x)". Then, you can just remove the other legend keys (textboxes) for the other data points individually. Kindly see the attached screenshot below.

    I hope this information helps.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I'd be glad to assist you further.

    Thank you and Best Regards!

    Jen :)

Thank you very much Jen. I thought I needed a workaround with labels but I had no idea how to do it. Shame this can't be done automatically in Excel.

    I really appreciate the help.
