Can't delete folders or unlink OneDrive on Mac

Hi,

Until last year I used two OneDrive accounts, my personal one and my university one. I've graduated and lost access to my uni account because it doesn't exist anymore. Now I've got files and folders on my MacBook that I want to delete but I don't have permission to do that and it's driving me crazy to be honest because I feel like I've tried everything by now.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Thales Targaryen,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft.

Per your description, my understanding is now you used to have personal OneDrive and school account, now you’ve graduated from school and now are unable to delete the OneDrive folder and unlink the account.

Give this scenario, I would like to explain when you unlinked your account from your OneDrive app, the OneDrive folder will be changed to a normal folder as same as the other folders on your Mac. If go to the OneDrive client to unlink the account, the OneDrive sync folder will become a normal folder and no longer have the function of synchronization.

Therefore, we suggest you go to the OneDrive folder > select the folder you want to delete > right-click it and click Get Info > Under Sharing and Permissions, you can check whether the user profile name you currently use has editing permission. If you only have the right to read, it means that the user profile account you are using does not delete the right to edit the folder. For more information, please refer: Change permissions of files, folders, or disks on Mac.

If you have permission to edit and you still cannot delete OneDrive folder, you can also use the below command to delete OneDrive folder and check if it works:

press Command + space to launch Spotlight and type Terminal, then double-click it and type the command below: sudo rm -rf  the location of this folder to delete the folder to check if the same problem will occur. (Please back up all files in this folder, this action will not be undo)

If the above does not work, could you please provide the screenshot of error?

If I misunderstand your scenario, please point out and we will further investigate.

    Best Regards,

    Gloria
