Paste Special Shortcut Not Working (ALT + E + S)

Is anyone else having issues where when you try and for example, paste special values using ALT + E + S + V, it doesn't recognize that you are trying to hit V?

What's happening is that when I copy a cell and then try to paste special somewhere else, I hit ALT + E + S and the paste special menu comes up as shown in the screen shot, however the window is becoming un-selected somehow, so when I go to hit V for values or F for formulas nothing happens unless I click on the window to re-select it and then only can I hit V or F and it works. This is very frustrating and killing my productivity working with data in excel.

If you have the problem, are you running Google Drive File Stream by chance? I know it sounds crazy but after I couldnt resolve my issue, I reset my entire laptop and reinstalled windows, only keeping my data,b but wiping all third party applications. I noticed the issue was gone and started to slowly add back my third party apps. I noticed that after I re-installed google drive file stream desktop application, the issue started happening again (even though the files in question, are or were never in that Google Drive). Once I uninstalled Google Drive file stream, the issue stopped and never came back.

I have no idea how or why that would occur but it worked for me. I am sure it will be years before anyone fixes this. Will more likely fix itself on its own, but for now I uninstalled file stream as I really wasn't using it that much anyway.

Thanks for narrowing this down to Google Drive File Stream. This problem has been driving me nuts. I've narrowed it down to GDFS's preference option of real time presence in Microsoft Office; i.e. in GDFS, there is an option that's probably checked to show who is editing Office files, and share with other editors if I am editing. All you need to do is UNCHECK this option (I don't use it anyway, and rather take back control of my Excel keyboard shortcuts).

i.e. If you think some process is stealing window focus when using Excel keyboard shortcuts like Alt+E+S+V / T / e, etc., then go to Google Drive File Stream preferences and uncheck the real time presence in Office.

    Hope this helps.

My problem was in Excel 365 business edition (Office 16), with Google Drive Filestream 42.0.11.0

I just wanted to drop by and say that I've been searching for this solution for MONTHS. And this is the ONLY place I've seen this posted. Thank you so much for narrowing it down to GDFS, this has saved me hours of frustration.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I have been trying to figure this issue out since August and it has been so frustrating using Excel. I am a heavy user and the Alt+E+S+V short cut for paste values is something I use all the time. It has been so frustrating having to use my mouse to complete the shortcut. 2021 just got a whole lot better!!!

Great sleuthing work. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to run GDFS with the option switched that off. Some heaving Excel work ahoy, so this will be well-tested.
