How do I make text instructions within a text box in Powerpoint disappear when clicking on the text box?

Hi,

I have a question in regards to Powerpoint.  Previously, an admin had set up text instructions that appeared within a text box.  So when a user went to a slide, instructions as to what to put in a text appeared within the text box.  Once the user clicks on the text box, the instructions would disappear, so the user would be able to enter in the text information.  

I have attached an example below.  The user sees this text box on the slide, clicks anywhere within the text box, but when doing so, the instructions "Who maintains this app?" disappears when the text boxed is clicked, allowing the user to enter in the details of who maintains the app.

Does anyone know how to go about recreating this?

    To create that effect, choose View>Slide Master, add a placeholder to the layout and type in the prompt text you want to appear on the slide.

    Is the user in slideshow mode or normal (edit) mode when they are updating this box?

    Is the box only on one slide (or only in one position across multiple slides), or are there multiple input boxes in different places on different slides?

    Is the filename .pptx or pptm? (tells us if the file has macros)

    My best guess is that they just created some custom master slides and added the textboxes there. Just like when you create a new slide and you have to edit the default text for the slide title or main text, you get the same user experience that you describe.
