While Word may not be the best application for this purpose, two avenues you can investigate are:

    1. An Organization Chart (Insert | Illustrations | SmartArt | Hierarchy)
    2. A table. This is very fiddly, but you can make it work either top down or side to side by merging and splitting cells and applying borders selectively. It's a little more flexible about adding text than the OrgChart as well.

There are also fillable PDF pedigree charts available online. The one I tried to use I found a bit Procrustean, but it is usable. You can find free ones at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/free-resources/charts/, and a Google search for "fillable pedigree chart" will turn up many others.

Also, Jay Freedman suggested that Family Tree Maker software is good for this if you're really serious about it. I'll take his word for it, as I have a 2011 copy that I've never installed!

I am pretty good at Excel but if I could find an Excel template that would be even better. Thank you so much for your answer! Be safe and be happy

Thank you so much! I haven't looked at the link that you said for more than 3 seconds but a fillable on the computer template is exactly what I was looking for. Your answer was so helpful it was almost as if you had read my mind! Thank you very much!
