CTRL + SHIFT + DOWN not working

Anonymous

The CTRL + SHIFT + DOWN ARROW combination isn't working, all other directions of CTRL + SHIFT + ARROWS work just fine.

It was working fine just an hour ago, then while on MS Excel I made some quick clicks and suddenly it stopped working. The combo isn't working for any application, not just Excel.

I have tried this on 2 different keyboards.

I have ensured that Scroll Lock is off.

I have restarted my computer.

I have ensured that my keyboard language settings have not changed.

I have ensured that the Excel / Advanced Options / Lotus Compatibility / Transition Navigation Keys box is unchecked.

I have ensured that the buttons are all working properly individually.

I'm out of options, any help?

Thanks!

    Hi Drake,

Try using the on-screen keyboard to check if the same issue persists. Press and hold the Windows key and press 'R' key. A run window will open then type 'OSK' (without the parenthesis), click on OK. Use the on-screen keyboard, press Ctrl+Shift+Down and check if you face the same issue using the mouse/touchpad. Let me know the outcome.

    Jen_L,

So I used the OSK again and it worked fine this time. Then I switched to my alternate keyboard again and it works fine, too. So the repair helped!

My main keyboard is still having issues but I reinstalled its drivers and switched ports with no success. I think I'm just going to switch to the alt keyboard to make life easy.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Drake!

I'm Jen, an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

Try performing an Online Repair and see if it fixes the issue. Follow these steps:

    Right-click the Windows Start button.

Select "Apps and Features" on the pop-up menu.

Find and click your Microsoft Office 2016 application in the list.

Select Modify, then "Online Repair" and follow the onscreen instructions.

Once the fix is applied, restart your computer and check if the problem has been resolved.

Let me know if this works. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'd be glad to assist you further.

    Thank you and Best Regards!

    Jen :)

    Hi Jen_L

I did the repair and restarted my computer, the issue persists. I don't think it's an application issue because even as I'm writing this reply in my browser, I can do CTRL + SHIFT + (other) ARROWS here, but not DOWN.

CTRL + DOWN works as intended, SHIFT + DOWN works as intended.

If you have other suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them - thanks!
