Open Sans not showing up in Word

Hi,

I am (also) having trouble loading Open Sans in Word (on a Mac). I followed instructions on a similar thread to clear Font Caches through Terminal, I uninstalled and reinstalled/validated Open Sans in FontBook, and restarted my computer... nothing. I need this font for some client projects, and it is causing me no end of headaches trying to get it to show up.

Thanks for the help

    Hi HilaryMatheson,

From your description, we understand the Open Sans are not showing up in Word. And you have tried to clear Font Caches through the commands in Terminal and restart the machine.

We did the test in Word application version 16.47 and install Open Sans font family. It seems Open Sans is not supported for Word for Mac. However, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open a document created on a Text edit, choose Open Sans then copy the text to Word, then set Open Sans as the default font and used that document as your base.
    2. Open it on Mac did not override the font and I was able to continue with Open Sans as the default.

This method helps one of users, so it may help you.

We are sorry to the absence of this function. we are very sorry for the lack of this feature, and we really believe your requirement can improve our products and bring a better user experience. You can kindly give your valuable suggestion on Customer Feedback for Microsoft Office 365 (uservoice.com). If many users vote it, the design of this feature will be developed in the future.

Your cooperation and understanding are highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tin

    Hi Tin,

Thanks for the reply. Disappointing to hear that Microsoft doesn't support such a universally used open source font on Mac (there's quite a lot of people that use Mac's these days). Kind of crazy, actually.

Unfortunately your workaround suggestions only import Open Sans as a basic font with no weight options, and even things as simple as a different font weight in that same family get reverted when I copy/paste from TextEdit. Not ideal.

I'll look into raising this as feedback. I'm not sure I'd say I have much "understanding" for why this is such a difficult thing to solve, however.... it's just a giant waste of my time.

    Thanks for trying to help,

    Hilary
