Proofing Tools

Suddenly a couple months ago, my language proofing tools in Office stopped working. I've continually reinstalled them but each time it says that they haven't been installed when I load back up. Every once in a while I'll try again, but it never changes. I've checked Word Options > Language and all it shows is "proofing available" which brings me back to the same link and the same download that doesn't work.

I have two hard drives and was concerned that something had downloaded to the wrong drive or something, so I even copied whatever Microsoft Office files onto both drives, but still nothing. It's getting really aggravating.

    Hi Elijah_LL,

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused. From your description, you found that the proofing tool (English (US))of your Office apps is not working, which it keeps promoting the message and let you install.

    First of all, may I confirm the following information at your convenience?

    1: What is your Office apps’ product information, version. update channel you are using? You can go to File > Account product Information to find details and share a screenshot of Product Information page with us.

    2: Which site you were trying to download the proofing tool? After you download and try to install, is there any message that indicates installation success or failure?

    3: Before this scenario occur, did you make any change to your computer before it happened? Such as Office updates, Windows updates, etc.

    From your above screenshot of Language, it seems that the proofing tool is not installed correctly in your Office apps which it shows “Proofing available” rather than “Proofinginstalled”.

    I suggest you can try to following the instruction to download and install the language from this site Language Accessory Pack for Office, and see whether the proofing tool can be installed and used correctly.

    Note: Please ensure you download and install the right bit version of language pack with your Office app. Eg, If your Office app is 64-bit version, you need to download and install the package for 64-bit as well.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

    I have tried, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong as it won't run.

    I have these two files in a folder labelled ODT. I renamed the executable as setup after the command didn't work the first time:

    When I ran it, this is the pop-up I received:

    Am I supposed to do something with the Click-to-Run tool? What am I meant to be doing?

    Hi Elijah_LL,

    Have you tried the ODT tool to successfully deploy and install the Proof tool for English? If there are any updates, please let us know below at your convenience.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

    Hi Elijah_LL,

    Thank you for your reply and sharing the information above.

    About the Office application version, you can share more details with Version, build number, update channel like blow. It is recommended that you can make sure your Office apps are up to date in your update channel.

    For your information:

    Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date)

    More importantly, it seems that you tried to download the Office language for installation as well, but the language isn’t be installed correctly although it indicates completed.

    In this scenario, I suggest you can try to use Office Deployment tool (ODT) to deploy Proofing language and see whether it can be deployed correctly.

    I am not sure which Office update channel you are using, but you can refer to this article about Channel attribute (part of Add element) to change the channel attribute value according to your Office apps.

    here is a code for Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) channel and install English (UnitedStatus) proofing tool.

    You can copy the following code to a notepad > Save as xml file with .xml file extension.

    <Configuration>

      <Add Channel="SemiAnnualPreview" AllowCdnFallback="TRUE">

        <Product ID="ProofingTools">

          <Language ID="en-US" />

        </Product>

      </Add>

    </Configuration>

    After that, you can download the latest Office Deployment Tool from Microsoft Download Center, place the xml file under the same folder with Office Deployment tool. Then open Command Prompt as administrator and run the command based on xml file.

    setup.exe/configure <your xml filename>.xml

    For your information:

    Overview of deploying languages for Microsoft 365 Apps

    Overview of the Office Deployment Tool

    Once it completed, you can check the Language in Office Option window, and see whether you English(United Status) is shown as Proofing installed.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

    1. My product information says Subscription Product: Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise.
    2. I am downloading from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/install-the-english-language-pack-for-64-bit-office-2e3481ee-4931-487f-b454-5756c8165a35?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us which is the same link that I'm brought to when I click the download button under "Text in English is not being checked. Do you want to download proofing tools and future updates?" It leads me to the same Office Setup download that the "Language Accessory Pack for Office" site brings me to.
    3. It is possible that an update occurred. As it has been several months of me trying to resolve this issue, I'm not quite sure anymore. I did, at one point, uninstall and reinstall Office, but the issue persisted.

    I tried the language accessory pack link. As mentioned above, it was the same download as before, but I still tried it (I have the 64 bit version). It said that the download completed, but nothing changed.
