Minecraft PE - "Unable to connect to world"

I have:

Two IPads Running IPadOS 14.3

Minecraft Version v1.16.201

These two Ipads on the same Wifi Network cannot connect to each others world.

Everything is up to date as far as I can tell, OS and Minecraft.

Soft reset both IPads

Checked settings for each Microsoft account, no restrictions on anything even went through 360 setting just to be sure.

Reset modem and wireless router.  Left each off for several minutes unplugged coax cable.  Reconnected waiting several minutes for each to boot up.

Logged out and back in on their Microsoft accounts.

They are friends and can attempt to join but fails with the message, Unable to connect to world.

Attempted to use my android device, same issue, can add as friend and see they are online and in the world but receive the message "Unable to connect to world."

*UPDATE*

If I login as my wife who has parental access to the Microsoft family feature her account can join my world, another parent on the same account.  But our kids cannot join us.

The wife's account does not get in on the first try, by the third try it usually works.

I double checked all the setting again for the kids.  Cannot get them to join.

This is a problem I had for awhile too, with Ipads/Apple devices. After many trials and errors, I figured out what to do.
Instead of going into Minecraft/Xbox settings, you need to go into the apple settings and scroll down until you find Minecraft (amongst a list of applications on device). Click on that and allow access to Local Network. That should be it!

    Hi KiwiGalactic,

Are you talking about going into the iPad settings or the host machine (apple laptop?)

If you mean on the iPad, the only available settings I'm finding are:

    1. Siri & Search
    2. Notifications
    3. Background App Refresh

I had the very same problem with my Son's worlds, 2 ipads on the same wifi, i couldn't connect to his world on the LAN. My Wife could, If i logged out, I could connect fine.

    I eventually fixed it...

In minecraft (Signed in), go into settings, profile. "Only allow trusted skins" was enabled for me, disabling this allowed me to connect to his worlds again.

    Hope this helps.

We had an iPad and iPhone and the user on the iPad could join the iPhone user’s world but the iPhone user couldn’t join the iPad user’s world. The option to turn on Local Network for the minecraft app in settings was only available on the iPhone, not iPad. Once it was turned on the iPhone, the iPhone user could then join the iPad user’s game.

    Hello christophMcC,

Yes, I am talking about going into IPad settings. That is interesting that the setting is missing, are you running on IOS 14+ or an older version?

Also, You mentioned hosting on a laptop? Java(Apple Laptop) and Bedrock(PE) are not compatible to play multiplayer together, not sure this is relevant but thought I’d mention it.
