Attaching SharePoint Images to a Planner Task - no preview and link not working in Microsoft Teams

I have a SharePoint List for logging Help Desk Tickets.  Users Log tickets through a Power App.  I have a Power Automate Script that handles new tickets - sends an email with any attachments and creates a planner task with any attachments.

This is all working fine except for the planner tasks:  The attachment links won't work and there is no thumbnail (accessing Planner through Teams).  If I access Planner in the web version I can open the links but there is still no thumbnail.

Clicking on the link in teams it says the item does not exist.  When I click on 'Open in SharePoint' it redirects the link and tries to open the image from an 'attachments' folder on SharePoint which does not exist.

Just to add to this - it is only happening for images - I can open other attachments without error e.g. .txt file

    Dear Éilis,

    Thanks for your updates.

The workaround flow is similar to the flow you mention in the reference link. As the links of the list attachments doesn't work in Microsoft Teams, you can just copy the attachments into a site library and then create the sharing links for the attachments in Microsoft Planner automatically by using a flow in Power Automate. The key point is to use the Append to array variable connector with JSON code to drag all files' sharing links to one created task in Microsoft Planner and the links should be able to be opened in Microsoft Teams. However, it doesn't have thumbnails. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I create a list List A for users to add attachments and create a library Library A to automatically copy the attachments. The flow looks like the following.

    Hope that helps you!

    Cliff

    Hi George,

    In answer to your questions..

    • The Show on Card checkbox is checked for the thumbnail but an image is still not displayed.
    • The Image is attached to a SharePoint List Item and not in a document library - the images have not been deleted, and have been uploaded successfully.
    • Manually creating a task with the link to the image attached to the SharePoint List has the same issue.
    • I don't think the Flow is the issue as if I access the Planner task in the Web version of planner the link works.  The issue seems to be opening the link through Teams.

The flow I am using is outlined in the below Post from the Power Automate Community:

    Hi Éilis,

    Sorry for my late reply.

For missing thumbnail, may I know when you access Planner in the browser, is the option “Show on card” enabled?

For the image doesn’t exist, since the attachment will be stored in the SharePoint document library associated with your plan, the image may be deleted for some reason or hasn’t been uploaded to the library successfully. Please manually create a task and upload the attachment to the task. After that, check whether the image exists in the SharePoint library.

If the image exists in the SharePoint library, the issue may be caused by the Power Automate flow you created. Please provide the detailed screenshots about the flow steps (from the SharePoint list item is created to create a task)

If the image doesn’t exist in the SharePoint library, please check whether the image is in the Recycle bin and the person in the Deleted by column.

    Regards, George

    Hi Geroge,

That's no problem at all.  I really appreciate you looking into this for me.  In the meantime if I can provide you with any additional information please don't hesitate to ask.

    Éilis
