OneDrive (for Business) for MacOS - How to disable startup at login?

Anonymous
2020-11-16T00:58:08+00:00

OneDrive Preferences have Open at Login DISABLED.

OneDrive has been removed from User LogIn Items in System Preferences.

OneDrive is still starting at Login.

Insider Preview Version 20.189.0920.0006

Update: I have erased my hard drive and reinstalled MacOS to work around this problem. The one person who has responded to this doesn't actually know what they're talking about so please ignore any replies from Jazlyn.

@Anthony: Since several weeks I do have exactly the same issue on my mac. I studied several forums and tried multiple ways for troubleshooting. I stopped where the geeks suggest scripting with the terminal in order to rearrange the system library... How can that be? I perfectly understand your feelings, Anthony. Jazlyn's answer is a mixture of incompetence and insolence.

@Microsoft: Just get the damn problem fixed!

I've posted a question in need of a solution. You do not have a solution and have wasted my time. Please delete all your replies to this topic so people with the same problem aren't lead to believe you have any clue as to what you're talking about.

We suggest you to continue to use the new use account and move the data from old user profile to new one as a workaround for the issue.

That's not a feasible solution and 'workarounds' don't address the problem at hand.

Perhaps this is why Microsoft can't fix bugs that have been reported for many, many years - they have low level 'agents' telling people to ignore the problem so the bug is never actually reported to the engineers. It's disappointing and fuels resentment of the brand.

"sometimes issue is caused by a specific corrupt user profile."

How does this happen? How can this be erased or rewritten or resolved? For other users who come across this thread, how can they fix their issue without resorting to an unreasonable workaround? Is this bug created by MacOS or OneDrive? If OD, has this issue been logged and how is Microsoft addressing this bug in their software?

Regardless, I have completely erased my hard drive and reinstalled MacOS. My OneDrive version is now 20.169.0823.0006 and I'm no longer having the issue.

Resetting OneDrive as instructed did not prevent OneDrive from starting at Login after turning off Open at Login.

OneDrive does not start in SafeMode.

I will make a new user account to see what that does.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Update:

I created a new MacOS user and logged into OneDrive using a personal @live.com account. OneDrive does not open on it's own when Open at Login is disabled.

    Hi Anthony,

Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Based on your description, you want to disable OneDrive startup at login on Mac. I tested it on my side, when I unchecked these two options, OneDrive will not startup at login automatically.

May I confirm that whether you have quit OneDrive after unchecking these options and then restart Mac? If yes, you can try to reset OneDrive. Resetting OneDrive can resets all OneDrive settings. Then uncheck these two options again to see the result.

If the problem persists, you can also try the following suggestions:

    1. Try safe mode to exclude local environment impact. You can launch a safe mode/boot on Mac OS, to check if issue caused by cache or directory issue with startup disk.
    2. You can also try to switch to a new Mac user account, sometimes issue is caused by a specific corrupt user profile.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn
