My first page starts with a table. I cannot type on top of it. Can you help me?

Click in any cell in the first table row. On the (Table) Layout tab, click Split Table. This will create a blank paragraph immediately above the table and put the insertion point there.

Another method is to put the cursor at the very first position in the table's top left cell and then press the Enter key. Again, the result is a new paragraph above the table.

If you press Ctrl+Home and then Enter, you don't get a paragraph above the table? Perhaps the table is wrapped? On the Table tab of Table Properties, make sure "Text wrapping" is set to "None."

If the table rows are formatted to "Keep with next" (Paragraph dialog box) and the table barely fits on a single page, adding a blank paragraph above the table would push it over to the next page.

Thank you for your reply. But this only pushes the whole table to the next page. I think my problem is that the table is pasted from another source. When I add gridlines, they do not mix in with the table. Although the pasting is not in the picture format, it is not possible to push it one line down.
