Hello all,

I have read almost all the threads that are referring to not being able to change ink to text. I have tried everything so far and i am still not able to get this to work correctly.

I have an Ipad Air 2020 and using the apple pencil gen 2. i go into Onenote in my ipad i use the pencil to write things down and when going into my laptop to change it into text so that i can put this information elsewhere, it does not work. I use the latest office version through my business account.

To confirm, i am able to click on the option "Ink to text" but it does nothing. I have double-checked to confirm the language is in English and use the Lasso select to highlight the handwriting i want to convert into text.  but it does nothing. i followed the steps highlighted here:

Hi Ismael Clavijo,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

From your description, I understand the issue is that the Ink to Text feature doesn't work in OneNote on laptop when you try to convert the handwritten notes written by OneNote for iPad to text. (If I misunderstand anything, feel free to correct me)

Do you use OneNote for Windows 10 or OneNote 2016 on your laptop?

When I test from my side, I cannot reproduce the issue. I can convert handwritten notes(created on iPad) to text when I click Ink to Text in OneNote 2016 and OneNote for Windows 10.

For troubleshooting, if it's convenient, just for test, could you please try to use finger to write some notes in OneNote for iPad and then go to OneNote on your laptop and test Ink to Text?

(Note: if you find Ink to Text is grayed out, you may right click the lasso selected ink and select "Treat selected ink as handwriting"  )

If it still does nothing when you click Ink to Text, you may try to Online Repair Office:

1)For OneNote 2016, close OneNote app on your laptop first. Then follow steps in this article to online repair Office.

2)For OneNote for Windows 10, close OneNote. Open Windows Settings>Apps>Apps & features>find OneNote for Windows 10, click it and click Advanced options>scroll down and click Repair.

Besides, for OneNote 2016, you may also click Draw tab, expand the drop down menu next to the pen colors, click Pen Mode>select Create Handwriting Only. Then test whether Ink to Text works or not.

If issue still happens, could you please confirm information below for further troubleshooting?

1.What is the version of OneNote app on your laptop? If OneNote 2016, please click File>Account, capture a screenshot of Product Information.

2.It seems your notebooks are saved in OneDrive for business. Does the issue happen is a specific notebook? If you try another notebook, does it work?

Thanks for your time and effort. Have a nice day!

Best Regards,

Tina
