    Hi Howard,

We appreciate that you posted back again and shared so detailed information with us. We also appreciate that you spent your time recording those videos.

We have tested again with the latest version of PowerPoint with the latest version of Current Channel 2012 (Build 13530.20316) again with different computers, and we just play the presentation, and we found it will flash before playing video.

However, if we selected the Video > Playback > Play full screen, the same problem didn’t occur. It seems that you can reproduce the same situation as yours.

At the same time, we have also tested it with Beta Channel Version 2102 (Build 13704.20000), we used the PowerPoint file you provided and same problem still persists.

Given this situation, we do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. You can also refer to the explanation John provided, and to address your concern, we’d suggest you report this issue via going to PowerPoint > File > Feedback. This feedback will directly go to them so that our related team can hear your voice on this feature directly. At the same time, we will also report this issue on our side.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

From version 2010 a new video engine was introduced which allows (for example) text in front of video, video in a shape other than rectangles. What the new engine does not allow is video over multiple slides. As soon as you set this the much older engine is used which is probably causing the flash and certainly would stop the new features like text in front of video in a shape..

You might try adding a fade in to the video but this doesn't always work.

    Hi Howard,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the detailed information with us. We’re sorry for the late reply due to the weekend.

We have read your description carefully, and it seems that you just inserted a video and set it to run automatically, then you added animation to play after previous with no delay. If you changed the settings to play multiple slides, the problem occurs again.

At the same time, you have also create a new PowerPoint file in the same computer but with different videos, the same problem still persists, even if you have tried different computers, and same problem still persists.

Given this situation, to do more tests on our side and check if we can reproduce the same situation as yours, could you confirm the information below?

    1. Since you mentioned you want to share the file with us, we’d suggest you upload the file to your OneDrive, then you can share an Anonymous link with us via private message. Please click on the link below to access your private message: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox.
    2. Could you provide the Product information and detailed version of your PowerPoint? So we can use the same version and product to do test on our side to check if we can reproduce the same situation as yours. You can go to PowerPoint > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it.
    3. If it is convenient to you, could you provide the video about how you reproduce the whole situation? So we can compare the situation on our side with yours. You can also use PowerPoint to record a screen and upload the video via private message. Please click on the link below to access your private message: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessage/inbox.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

Thank you, I have insert mp3s over multiple slides in the past with no issues, but inserted video from file, set it to run automatically and under options for playback, starting from begining and to stop playing after 8 slides.

I then added animation to play after previous with no delay. (have tried over several days all the options in both playback and annimations) When set to play over several zlides the area covered by the video flashes to show the background of the presetation monitor. Have tried from small section to full screen and changing the playback area changes the amount of the background screen I see on the presentation monitor. Simply change the settings to play only over that slide and it plays perfectly, change again to multiple slides problem occurs again. Tried closing Powerpoint and resrting computer several times to rule out it holding some bad coding somewhere.

I then tried creating a band new set up as a new presentation with basic design on the same computer but with different videos from my you tube to other youtube to my own H264 recordings edited on Pinnacle and saved as MP4. The results were always the same so then tries a different computer and repeated my experiments and got exactly the same results both were running Windows 10 and my pro version of Office 365.

Is there any way I could send the file to you or park it for you to access? it is around 180mb because of the video size

    Thanking you

    Howard Drury

    Hi Howard,

Thank you for querying in this forum. We do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. And we will try our best to help you.

According to your description, it seems that you can insert video in PowerPoint and play over one slide perfectly. However, if you play the video across multiple slides, you found that it will appear a flash of the second screen. And this video plays perfectly elsewhere.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we have tested it on our side, we just selected the video > Playback tab > change to Start Automatically > Click the Animations tab and open Animation Pane > Double-click the animation Play From to open the Play Video dialog box >  In the Effect tab, under the Stop playing header, select After and choose the desired number of slides for the video to persist through.

May I know if the steps above are consistent with yours? If not, to better understand your situation and do more tests on our side, could you provide the information below?

    1. You mentioned “but set to play over more slides”, could you provide the detailed steps about how you set to play over more slides?

    2. Could you provide the product information and version of your PowerPoint? You can go to PowerPoint > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it. As shown below: ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/779e4ae9-978a-4766-bc42-dd68b72791ae?platform=QnA
