We are planning and tracking tasks at Outline Level 4, but costs are being tracked at Outline Level 3. Is there a way to budget costs at Level 3 and update the monthly spending at this level?

    ReggieBrown1,

Well, I already gave you my contact in a response to a question you asked on this forum back in October 20, 2020.

When you send the file, be sure to provide a detailed explanation of exactly what you need. I will ask some questions.

    ReggieBrown1,

It sounds like what you need is to set up a budget cost resource which can only be assigned at Project Summary Task level. I suggest you add the Budget Cost field to the Gantt Chart view and then while hovering your mouse over the field header, hit F1 to bring up the help file.

If you need further help, let me know. And for reference, you cannot attach a file to a forum post but you can attach a screen shot. I'm not sure why it didn't work for you.

If you want to send your file to me we can work one-on-one. Let me know.

    John

The finance and accounting department is tracking costs for level 3 tasks. The business unit managers are tracking schedule progress at level 4, but coding invoices at level 3. There is no cost budgeting for the level 4 tasks. hence no cost rollup is happening. I know this is unusual.

However, I would like to be able to budget at level 3 and track monthly spending against those outline level 3 tasks.

I'm not sure how to attach a file in this forum as I could possibly send you one if I knew how. I tried including a screenshot but it didn't work.

    ReggieBrown1,

I don't quite understand what you are saying. Costs are rolled up at all outline levels. What exactly do you mean by "tracked at" a particular outline level? An example of what you are trying to do would be helpful.
