Pivot Table Design Tab of Excel 365 for MAC does not show the Layout and Pivot Table Style Options

I have a macbook pro with the macOS Big Sur 11.1 installed up to date.

I have also installed the Microsoft 365 Excel for Mac version 16.44 which is up to date.

In the Ribbon and Toolbar of the Excel, I have selected the Design Tab (as it can be seen in the screenshot below) which should show the Layout, Pivot Table Style Options and Pivot Table Styles:

But when using Pivot Tables, on the Tab “Design” I can find only the Pivot Table Styles as it shows the screenshot below:

But the Tab Design does not show the Layout and Pivot Table Style Options features despite in the Ribbon and Toolbar they are selected. This is disappointing because I cannot use features like Subtotals, Report Layout etc (below the Design Tab of Excel for Windows:

I would like to know how to solve this problem if there is any solution and you can help me?

Many thanks

Mariano

Jim,

Thank you very much, indeed reading your answer I realize immediately that that's the way it has to be done.

Like that it works perfectly.

Thank you very much and my apologies for the late replay.

Kind regards

Mariano

Mariano,

The features you want should be available from the Right-Click contextual menu even if they are not in the Ribbon.

Since this started with the 16.44 update, I suggest restoring the 16.43 update of Microsoft Excel.app using Time Machine. You need restore just the one file.

    Hi Muhammad,

    Sorry for the late reply!!

Yes indeed it works perfectly, I realize that when you select a pivot table it appears automatically the menu for the Design and Analyze the Pivot Table and there is no need to select it upfront in the Ribbon.

Thank you very much for your reply

    Kind regards

    Mariano

    Hi MarianoCampo1980,

I apologize for all the trouble it has caused and sorry about your time.

As per your description, I just tested the Excel 16.44 (20121301) version, and it seems to work fine from my side on Mac OS Big Sur. I click anywhere in the PivotTable to show the Design tabs and I’m able to see the features. See image below for your reference:

To move further, please try the following steps and see if it works for you.

1.Remove Excel cache and check if issue happens:

Close Word app > right click Finder from dock and select Go to Folder >

enter ~/Library/Containers > move the folder Microsoft Excelto your Desktop > reopen Excel, create a new document, type texts in it and check the result.

2.Try to reboot Mac in safe mode and determine whether background programs are causing the issue. For detailed information, please check this article.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.
