Word- How to set bullet point keyboard shortcut to be correct?

Hi, is there a way to make the keybaord shortcut (command+shift+L) create the standard bullet point indenting like is achieved when clicking the bullet point button?

For example, if click the bullet point button, it looks like this:

Example title

  • Example bullet

But if I do the keyboard shortcut, it does this:

Example Title

* Example bullet (replace * with a bullet)

the text is indented slightly, but the bullet point is not. Is there a way to fix this?

thank you!

Try forgetting about redefining anything in order to make it do something other than what it is designed to do :-)

Instead, use what's already provided: Shift+8 or Option+8 followed by pressing Tab depending on the preferred size of the bullet.

    Hi Willy,

Thank you for your post in our forum.

Per your question, as we test on our end, we would like to suggest that you can define a new bullet. Here are the steps and a screenshot for your reference.

Home > Click the drop arrow of the Bullet > Define New Bullet > Customize Bulleted list > Set Bullet Position or Text Position.

Hope this can help you. 😊 Have a good day!

    Best regards,

    Cindy

I suggest that you customize a bulleted style and apply it to text. Doing so is the only reliable way to control bullets in your document (because Word doesn't offer a predictable way to apply the most recently used bullet format).
