How are folks getting around the 2FA requirement for Microsoft 365 to send an email from these devices?

Thanks

    Shymal,

    Thanks for your response.

Some clarification.  The device that wants to use the email account is a printer/scanner, better known as a MFD, Multi Function Device.  Once of the ways to get the file that is created by the scanner is to email the file to the person that did the scanning.  In the printer you set up the person with their email address and Authenicated SMTP server.  Nothing complicated.  There is no option in the authentication in the email setup of the printer/scanner for 2FA.

This referenced document confirms this.  I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I had missed.

I will have to look for another method to get the scans from the printer/scanner to the user.

    thanks for your help.

    Len

    Hi Len.

May I double confirm whether you authenticate your device with Microsoft 365 and send mail using SMTP AUTH client submission option?

If so, this option is not compatible with multifactor authentication (MFA). If your environment uses MFA, we recommend using Option 2 or 3 mentioned in the article below.

For your reference: How to set up a multifunction device or application to send email using Microsoft 365 or Office 365

Moreover, if the information above is not relevant to your query or I have misunderstood anything please correct me and

provide us with detailed information about the issue with an example so that we can check to further assist you.

Your patience is highly appreciated. Have a nice day and stay safe!

    Best regards,

    Shyamal

Well if you used the device full feature software, when you scan to email it simply opens a msg window with the scan attached, for you to then send.

    Hi Len,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, please take your time to use the another method such as "Option 3: Configure a connector to send mail using Microsoft 365 SMTP relay" and update the result at your convenience.

    Best regards,

    Shyamal

    Palcouk,

    Thanks for the response.

What are you referring to, "full feature software"?

    Len
