Microsoft word extremely laggy while working with a document

Hello,

one of my colleagues is having trouble with word documents, while trying to type anything it works extremely slow, every letter needs at least 5 seconds to load up. I have tried doing the usual trouble shooting, restarted the PC, reinstalled Office, disabled hardware acceleration, nothing helped. I checked files compatibility and it had no issues.

 I have no idea what is the problem here anymore and what I could do to resolve it, maybe anyone has any ideas?

    I am having a problem with MS Office 365 Word lagging. When I type or page down Word is slow to respond. It only seems to be affecting Word. My PC updates are current. I have restarted the PC several times. I have started Word in the safe mode. I have turned off auto sync with OneDrive. No difference. It is the same with multiple files. None of the files are exceptionally large. It has been happening for about 2 weeks now.

    Per your description, the Word documents typing which works extremely slow, and you’ve tried restarted the PC, reinstalled Office, disabled hardware acceleration while the issue still persists. May I know this is your colleague current situation?

    Given this case, we did the test in Word version 2101 while there has no laggy issue, sorry for the inconvenience caused, let’s troubleshoot together and we will try our best to help you.

    Firstly, based on Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date), the latest version of Word for current channel is 2101, if you are not using the latest one, please update it and see if the newest one can help fix it.

    Moreover, you can try safe mode in Word to identify any add-in or extension that may be causing a problem on startup.

    Also perform a clean boot in Windows to determine whether a background program is interfering with Office program.

    If the issue happens on all files, you may try Online Repair to check if it helps. This step helps isolate whether the issue relates to Office client or the file.

    If the issue still exists after trying the above, we would like to collect some information from your side:

    1. Whether all files or this specific one encounter the laggy problem? Including a new blank file?
    2. Have you received any error or prompt? If yes, you can upload the screenshot with us.
    3. Could you tell us which product are you using? You can also open Word> click File> Account> capture the screenshot of full "Product Information" page here.
    4. Do other types of file like PPT, worksheets also encounter the same problem?

    Thank you for your reply, sorry it took me awhile to come back to you.

    We managed to narrow it down that only one project word files that follow the same template, they all have  A3 paper size with a table inserted, could that be causing a problem? Maybe there is a way to check file besides compatibility?
