Move Thousands of Photos from OneDrive to iCloud?

Hi,

I've googled this question but none of the topics works. Specifically, in the iPad OneDrive app, I do not see any option to select all photos and Ctrl+A doesn't select all photos. This is in the iPad OneDrive app. And in the OneDrive UI I see a Photos icon which displays all the offline photos I need to move and I see a Files icon. However, in the Files area, I don't see any Photos folder.

My goal is to move maybe 8000 photos from OneDrive to an iCloud account, hopefully using iPad but could have access to a Windows laptop in the next week. However, when I looked at this problem from the Windows 10 laptop the other day, I had the same problems: no Select All option, no Photos folder, and no way to move files except to select one by one.

In addition, in the iPad, I was able to select individual photos as a test then download them. However, the downloaded image files were 0KB and empty files. I'm wondering if there's a permissioning issue?

Also wondered the reason OneDrive seems to convert into movies the multi-image static images generated by iPhone cameras.

What's the easiest way to download large numbers of photo files from OneDrive and get them into iCloud? I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!

    Hi Tslavin,

To select multiple photos or videos in OneDrive for iOS, follow the steps below:

    1. Press and hold one photo or video, then tap the circle next to additional file names to check them.
    2. Tap Share > Save Photo.
    3. Find your downloaded photos or videos in your device's Camera Roll folder.

For reference, see Download files from OneDrive to your device

Besides, the convenient and efficient way to move photos from OneDrive to iCloud would be using a computer. As you mentioned, you will get access to Windows computer, please try the following steps to download the photos from OneDrive.

To move files from OneDrive for business, follow the steps below:

    1. Log in to OneDrive, select all the photos. To select all files in a folder, click the circle to the left of the header row, or press CTRL + A on your keyboard.
    2. In the top navigation, select Download. (You can also right-click the file, photo, or folder, and select Download.)
    3. If your browser prompts you, choose Save or Save As and browse to the location where you want to save the download. For more information, see Download files and folders from OneDrive or SharePoint
    4. Now, log into the iCloud with an Apple ID on the computer and upload the photos from the local folder.

If you still need help, please confirm whether you are storing your files in personal OneDrive or OneDrive for business.

    Regards,

    Neha

To clarify, Neha, with the iPad OneDrive app, I have to manually select every one of the thousands of photos before Share > Download?

The second link above does have a technique I'd not found elsewhere: click one photo then scroll down and hold the Shift key then click the last photo. That does select everything. However, it crashes the iPad OneDrive app on a machine with a ton of RAM and HD space. So I'm back to clicking every photo or doing the transfer in batches (100? 200?) that don't crash OneDrive.

I'm not sure which version I have of OneDrive. I subscribe to Office 365 and use the same login for OneDrive as Office 365 so assume it's the business version.

When I have access to the Windows laptop, I'll try that approach and come back if needed and/or to close this question. Appreciate your help!

    Hi Tslavin,

    Thanks for replying.

Regarding “I subscribe to Office 365 and use the same login for OneDrive as Office 365 so assume it's the business version”, I would like to mention that not every Office/Microsoft 365 subscription has OneDrive for business. Subscriptions like Microsoft 365 family/personal comes with personal OneDrive which has 1 TB storage space.

OneDrive for business is the part of business/enterprise and education plan such as Microsoft 365 for business/ E3/E5 etc. When you use OneDrive with an account provided by your company or school, it used to be known as "OneDrive for Business”.

Anyway, when you get access to Windows computer, please try the above suggestion. If you need any help, please let us know. We will help you further.

    Regards,

    Neha
