Hi Michael,
In Excel, if you want to bold or underline specific words within a cell, you can just select the words you want and click Home-> Bold and Underline under Font tab.
Then the specific words will be bold and underlined.
If you can’t do this in Excel, you can try to create a new workbook and check whether you can do these actions without issue. Moreover, may I know whether issue happens to a specific sheet or workbook?
