OneDrive: Resolve the file conflict

Hello all,

My users are getting the error while in OneDrive very often.

The error is "We couldn't merge the changes in an office file, Open the one drive activity centre and click the error to resolve the issue"

The issue is resolved by choosing "Open in office to merge changes" but it comes back again later on. I have tried looking into many threads

on the internet but none of them is helpful. Has anyone been able to resolve this?

Regards,
Navin

Hi Navin,

This issue could be happen if your users are co-authoring under an unstable network.

When co-authoring with other users, Office will autosave the file to the server, so the other users can see your modification on this file.

However, for some reason, if the user's file was not synced to the cloud for a long time. And the others don't have this issue. This will cause the conflict.

Using Excel application, for instance:

The user's file is not synced properly to the cloud and he input a value in the A1 cell, and his colleagues also update the A1 cell as they did not see his modification. So when the user's sync function is back to normal, it won't be able to handle the sync process as there are 2 different values for the A1 cell. So OneDrive will return this error and ask the user to merge the changes.

Regards,

Alex Chen

Unfortunately, there is no other method to around this.

I understand this could be frustrating, however, that's the basic function in OneDrive to protect your Data's integrity.

    Hello Alex,

Thank you so much for you response.

So, in that case there is no way to avoid this and they need to keep on choosing to merge the file?

    Thank you,

    Navin
