Installing Visio, Project 2019 alongside Microsoft 365 Apps (ProPlus)

Hi Folks,

We are seeking some assistance with installing volume licensed Visio, Project 2019 alongside installs of Microsoft 365 Apps, or the artist formally known as Office ProPlus.

Opinions online seem to vary on this topic. We do not want the ODT process to REMOVE the Office Suite by accident, while trying to install Project 2019 or Visio 2019 alongside.

Our MS 365 Apps are currently on Version 2102, Build 13801 Click to Run

    Hello.

We were able to install Visio 2019 alongside Office365 ProPlus, however ProPlus was automatically downgraded in version/build.

Office ProPlus reverted to version 1808, Build 10372.

Prior to installing Visio 2019 VL, Office was running Version 2102, Build 13801.

Office now says it's "Up to date" with updates.

How do we get office on the latest version, and still work alongside Visio Professional 2019 VL? This is madness.

Does Project Plan1 include desktop install or is it Web only?

What happened to Plans 2 and 4?

Does plan 3 and 5 include Web app?

Those propaganda pages are too vague. There is no place to complain about them.

    Hi Dan-at-MIT,

Thanks for the updates and I understand your feelings. Office apps in Microsoft 365 subscription and volume licensed Office have different update channels. As you can see in the link: Volume licensed versions of Office 2019 update history Version 1808 (Build 10372.20060) is the latest version of Office 2019.

For Office 365, Microsoft 365, and Office 2019 products, all products installed on the computer must be using the same update channel. In this case, you may find Office version become Version 1808 after you install Project/Visio 2019 Volume Licensed. For more information: Link

You may try subscription version of Visio and Project instead, desktop apps contained in these plans should have same versions if you install them alongside with Office 365. Here are some references:

Way back when CTR was first propaganda'd (in 2010) they crowed it would allow you to install 2 versions side by side, including outlook. And the techy guys did make that work. Then marketing stuck their big noses in and messed things up ...

    .

When Office 2016 was released MS got "cute". They decided to make the "Click to (not) run) VM installer "selective".  CTR replaced MSI install, eliminating use "custom installs".  Initially the 2016 CTR installer automatically unintalled all other versions. After some push back from users, 2016 stopped forcing the uninstall.  But at the same time the (dis)"improvements" to the 2016 installer made it almost impossible to Viso and Project (oops, but they never apologized). MS was incredibly clumsy about this.

     .

After about a year they came out with partial fixes and some advice. I have no idea if this advice still applies to 2019.

    .

Good luck.  Keep notes as you go, links to more current articles, let us know if you make it work, eventually.

Starting on October 11, 2016, Office 2013 software that uses Click-to-Run can be installed on the same computer with Office 2016 software that uses Click-to-Run.

We can also Use the Office Deployment Tool to install volume licensed editions of Visio 2016 and Project 2016 .

Note: The MAK keys currently available on the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) aren’t compatible with this specific installation scenario. We’re working on a solution, but we currently don’t have a date when we expect the solution to be available. KMS activation is available.

Check to confirm you have a Visio license.

Visio and Project are NOT included in ANY office bundles. Sign in to the Account management site (consumer or business) and verify that you have a Visio / Project license as well as Office.

You can log into Microsoft 365 portal (for Business) or ****https://account.microsoft.com/ **** (for consumers) in web browser with the appropriate email account > View account > Subscriptionpage to find the details.

    <snip>

I haven’t had any issues running Office 365 Home and Visio Pro 365 on the same computer. In fact, Visio 2016 didn’t even break my Visio 2010 (Perpetual License) install, which based on what I’ve read, I was afraid would happen.

My main annoyance is that means I now have two separate accounts (one for Office and one for Visio) which makes managing the subscriptions more difficult and sometimes Microsoft will try to redirect me from one site (Business/Home) to the other when I login, causing it not to recognize my login.

Visio and Project versions that can be installed on the same computer with Office 365 ProPlus

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt422981.aspx

You can’t have a volume licensed version of Visio 2016 or Project 2016 installed on the same computer as the Office 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus.

Also, if there is a 2013 version of Visio Pro for Office 365 or Project Pro for Office 365 installed on the computer when you upgrade Office 365 ProPlus to the Office 2016 version, those versions of Visio and Project are removed from the computer. You won’t be able to reinstall them after the Office 365 ProPlus installation finishes. However, you can install the 2016 versions of Visio Pro for Office 365 and Project Pro for Office 365 on the same computer with the Office 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus.

    Important:
If you have a volume licensed version of Visio 2013 or Project 2013 installed on the computer, it won’t be removed from the computer during the upgrade of Office 365 ProPlus. You can continue to use the volume licensed version of Visio 2013 or Project 2013 on the computer with the Office 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus.

First to download the Office Deployment Tool on your computer and then use the Notepad to configure the configuration.xml.

You can follow the Configuration options for the Office 2016 Deployment Tool to write the text and remember to save it. The picture is an example format.

Then right click Windows and click Command Prompt(Admin) .

And go to the folder that you have saved the configuration.xml file using cd and cd .. command.

    Type the command setup.exe /configure configuration.xml.

You can also take a look at Using the Office Deployment Tool for Click-to-Run.

After we installed the Visio 2016, we still need to use volume activation methods to activate the product.

    Hi Dan-at-MIT,

I go through the post carefully, if you have License for Project and Visio subscription, users with the license can install the app from site https://portal.office.com/account/#installs. If you have volume licensed Visio, Project 2019, you may need to develop them with Office Development Tool. For more information, please check official links:

Use ODT will not remove installed Office if you configure the xml files rightly, you may also use Office Customization tool to create the .xml files quickly, you may use the tool from the site: Office Customization Tool For more information on the tool: Overview of the Office Customization Tool

    Hope these can help.

    Regards,

    Clark
