Can't save files, please help

Hi. I occasionally need to communicate with someone who does not have Office. The docs person sends me are .odt and previously I have had no problem converting them to .doc or .docx, saving, editing, returning to sender.  This time conversion was impossible and I finally gave up. I did not save or edit the .odt and I did nothing to my settings. Since then, I can't save anything as any kind of Word Doc. When I try to save a document, I get this error message:

You are attempting to save a file type (Word 2007 and later Documents and Templates) that has been blocked by your File Block Settings in the Trust Center.

I have no idea what the Trust Center is and I've never set any File Block Settings. Above my paygrade. I've looked in Help and online for assistance, but everything I find does not work on my version of Office. Please help me get my program back. Thank you.

Hi Minor

Great, I am glad that worked for you, yes, it is perfectly safe to untick all options on that settings page, I always have them all disabled, glad to Help!

    Hi Minor

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

Open Word, go to File - Options

On the left, click Trust Center and on the Right, click Trust Center Settings

On the left, click 'File Block Settings'

At the top of the resulting settings page, is there tick marks on 'Word 2007 and later Documents and Templates'

If so, untick those options, save that setting and restart word and test if you can open those files

If not, please provide a screenshot of the File Block Settings window . . .

Woo Hoo, Dave. Thank you very much. I could save the files immediately after unticking the boxes.
Is it okay to untick all the boxes so that I can view, edit, save every kind of file? People in my life keep their computers a long time. And will I be able to work with the person who uses open office (the .odt files) if I untick the right thing? Thanks again.
