Non-working days not greyed out in gantt chart nor task is not prolonged due to non-working days

I took over a project with some non-working days that were in wrong days.

I updated to correct dates and also added a few extra days like assession day..

The first Non-working days that were in the past I did not change but I changed everything else.

In my gantt chart only the first "non-working days" is displayed in grey (the one I did not change) from top to bottom. All the rest is not recognized.

In the project/properties/Change working days/details the first "non-working days" part looks exactly the same as the rest. Non-working days, daily, start date and end after 26 occurance is correct. In the project/properties/Change working days the day calendar looks right with greyed out days. But they do not come up in the gantt chart.

In the project/protperties/project info I have double checked that the correct calendar is used = standard.

    StefanAndresen,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you found a "solution" (zooming in) but the non-working time should still be showing up for July 2021 in your first screen shot, just like it does for July 2020. However, I've noticed some strange things with the timescale display myself so I'm not too surprised.

I don't quite understand what you are asking in your first paragraph but let's see if this helps. Project has a basic template file called the Global that sets up various built-in views, view tables, filters, calendars, etc. The default calendars included in the Global are the Standard, 24 hour, and Night Shift. When a user directly modifies the non-working days or times for one of those built-in calendars, those changes are saved with the file but that does NOT change the calendar of the same name in the Global file. If the file with a modified "Standard" calendar is shared with another user, all will work as expected. The problem comes in a couple of ways. If a user uses the Organizer to replace the Standard calendar in the Global with the "Standard" (modified) calendar in the file, any new file that is created will have the modified Standard calendar as the default. In some cases this may be desirable but in other cases it may not be (e.g. the user needs to create a new project with the original Standard calendar).

Another way having two different versions of the Standard calendar can be problematic is if Project crashes or needs to be re-installed. Project will automatically create a new Global file and the Standard calendar in that Global will be the original non-working days and times. If the user creates a new file and expects the Standard calendar to be the modified version, it will not be.

The same holds true for all built-in items (e.g. views, view tables, filters, etc.). Best practice when creating a modified version is to uniquely identify item names (e.g. My Gantt Chart view versus Gantt Chart view, Norwegian calendar versus Standard calendar, etc.).

    Hopefully this help to clarify.

    John

    StefanAndresen,

First of all it's not a good idea to modify the built-in Standard calendar. If you need custom work days and/or times, the best practice is to create a custom calendar, perhaps based on the Standard, to create what you need.

If the only issue has to do with the Gantt Chart display (i.e. non-working times not greyed out), then double click on the Gantt timescale header to bring up the Timescale window. Click on "non-working time" and make sure the "Calendar" is set for your custom calendar.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation about Standard Calendar. Are there any place where I can read into it more. I did not grasp how the Standard project are used. you stated it was shared. Is it not only for a separate project file?

About my issue. I found the problem. I have been working on a too high level. When I zoomed in I found my non working time. The first non-working time was total July 2020. And was seen when smalest time window was a month. But Vacation 2021 was from 5th of July to 6th of August. And is therefore just shown when zooming in a bit more. I show below.

In this zoom level I only see the Vacation 2020

But when I zoom in I find my non-working days.

And my non-working time schedule is

Quite embarrasing and frustrating that I have put a few hours on this issue.

    Thanks for your help!

    StefanAndresen,

If you modify the Standard calendar instead of creating a new custom calendar, you risk issues if you ever have to re-install Project or work with other users whose Standard calendar is the original. It's just not good practice to mess with the built-in calendars in your Global.

I don't quite understand your statement about the "first non changed non-working time is in grey". Perhaps some screen shots would help and include a screen shot of your custom calendar (i.e. change working time window).

By the way, what version of Project are you using?

And if necessary, would you be able to send me your file?

Why is it custom not using the standard calendar?

I have in the timescale/Non-working time the right calendar and "In front of task bars" clicked in. The color is grey and the pattern is solid.

But still only the first non changed "non-working time" is in grey.

I have tried to make a new calendar and have the same issue.
