Text Background Set to None (Clear) but Displays White

Hi,

I have a recurring problem that I cannot resolve. I want to use a shape (blue rectangle) as a layer behind text, the text is showing up with a white background. I've tried copying the text into a new document, using a different style, clearing all formatting, setting the background to None, but nothing works. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hello,

My name is Charles Kenyon and I am an Independent Advisor in this forum . This forum is a user-to-user support forum. I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have help articles on the Microsoft site.

This looks like text "Shading."

Select the text and using the Borders and Shading dialog, go to the Shading Tab and make sure it says no shading.

You can reach this dialog by clicking on the Borders icon on the Paragraph group on the Home Tab and selecting Borders and Shading at the bottom of the drop-down. Then click on he Shading tab.

If this is not the problem, If you want, save a sample document with the problem on OneDrive or Dropbox and paste a view link here. Here is more on why and how to post such a document so I or others here can help you. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/fo...

I hope this information helps.

Here is a temporary link to a version of your document after I removed the shading from selected text.

You had white shading applied to text.

Here is how it should look:

I'm sorry. I need the document file. I think you attached the wrong file! It appears to be a movie of your son.

Wearing my moderator hat, I removed the link. Nevertheless, you might want to change the name of that file.

    Hi Charles,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have uploaded a sample file to Dropbox. As you suggested, I have checked the shading and it is set to None. I do believe this has something to do with the Style assigned to the text, which is Normal.

SORRY! HERE IS THE CORRECT LINK: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/44xt6rn26dv19byq0gk8g/05212021-MS-Troubleshooting-Text-Shading-Issue.docx?dl=0&rlkey=s32b7tjkclg6ftqlemmujd7ey

Thank you for looking into this matter.
