Godaddy Office365 to Microsoft365

Hi support,

I have 2  office 365 subscriptions from GoDaddy which are Microsoft 365 Email Essentials From GoDaddy and Microsoft 365 Email Plus From GoDaddy.

Now, I would like to Purchase Microsoft 365 Premium (which has intune and Azure information Protection) from Microsoft directly and move everything there.

I was advised that I need to migrate my emails, calendars, contacts from Godaddy Office 365 to the new Microsoft 365 subscription.

I wonder why do I need to do that because I already have an office 365 subscription which is from Godaddy but it is the same product, why can't I just upgrade the plan and have everything on the new plan?

Or is the GoDaddy office 365 is hosted in a different place than the Microsoft data center?

Please clarify.

    Hi SuaibPattathody,

As far as I know, Godaddy is the reseller, and subscriptions purchased from Godaddy are supported by Godaddy, while subscriptions purchased from Microsoft 365 are supported by Microsoft 365, Godaddy portal is different from Microsoft 365 portal. If you want to Migrate to Microsoft 365, you need to migrate emails, calendars, contacts from Godaddy Office 365 to the Microsoft 365.

Here is the URL for Microsoft 365 portal:

     https://www.office.com/?auth=2

Here is the URL for Microsoft 365 admin center: https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home?source=applauncher#/homepage

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Nerissa

    Hi Nerissa,

    Thanks again for the answer.

I would appreciate it if you could give a little more detail about the system design.

It will help me (and maybe some others too) understand why migration is necessary when moving from 365 by Godaddy to 365 by Microsoft.

    Hi SuaibPattathody,

Thank you for your reply. As we confirmed before, kindly please know that due to system design, Godaddy Portal cannot be co-exist with Microsoft Office admin portal and which means if you have active licenses purchased from Godaddy portal, then when you try to sign into Microsoft Office admin center, it will be automatically transferred to Godaddy portal due to system design. If you would like to upgrade the licenses directly from Microsoft, then you need to cancel the Godaddy licenses first then release the partnership. However, before you finish the step with purchase the new licenses, the users will have service interruption. Please contact with Godaddy if they have the offer which you would like to upgrade with so that to avoid any service interruption. Thank you for your understanding and I apologize for your inconvenience.

    Best regards,

    Nerissa

    Hi Nerissa,

    Thanks for the answer.

Can you tell me why the 2 offerings are different in terms of hosting or where the actual data is residing.

    For e.g. I have ******@xyz.com on my domain xyz.com at GoDaddy's office 365.

I will create the same email address ******@xyz.com on my new subscription purchased from Microsoft directly.

As an end-user, I am moving from 365 to 365 (the same product) so why I can't have my data moved too?

    Any thoughts.

    Hi SuaibPattathody,

Good day. Thank you for posting in our forum.

As far as l know, licenses which purchased from Godaddy cannot be co-exist with the licenses which purchased from Microsoft Office 365 admin portal directly. You can't upgrade your subscription directly in  Microsoft 365 admin center, in this case, we recommend that you contact Godaddy Technical Support to help you upgrade your subscription in Godaddy.

Your understanding will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Nerissa
