Changing the Margins of Only A Specific Page in a Document

In Microsoft Word, page margins can be changed in Layout > Margins. I need to know how to change the margins of only a specific page, not affecting the margins of the rest of the pages in a document.

You can select a text range and then change the margins for the selection, using the Page Setup dialog box. Word will put the text range in a separate section.

First, select the text range. Then double-click the vertical ruler to display the Page Setup dialog box (or use the dialog launcher button in the Page Setup group on the Layout tab on the ribbon). Make the desired changes. Change "Apply to" so that it says "Selected text" and finally click OK. Word will add the required section breaks.

Alternatively, you can apply indentation to the relevant text paragraphs. The advantage is that you can do this without section breaks.

There's another method that's appropriate if the page you want to change is the first one in the document (or in another section that you started for a different purpose). It involves creating a text box or frame anchored in the First Page Header, as described in the "More complex letterhead" section of http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/LetterheadRibbon.htm. The box can be empty or may contain text and/or graphics. You could also place a second box to the right of the page to further narrow the main text.

In general, though, using paragraph indents is the best solution.

You do it the same way, with textboxes or frames that take up the space in the footer area and push other text up. Neither frames nor textboxes need to have borders.

For the bottom margin you don't need a text box or frame; just add Spacing Above to the footer.

Thank you for the explanation. I did not see the option to change the bottom indent (I can see only right and left indent options). So I wanted to know how to change the bottom margin.

You do it the same way, with textboxes or frames that take up the space in the footer area and push other text up. Neither frames nor textboxes need to have borders. If you want this for only the first page, you use the methods Suzanne has outlined. Here is another page on this:

(my page) How can I get a different header/footer on the second page?.

If you are doing this only on one page in the middle of your document, you can use frames or textboxes on the page to move text around or you can add a section break and use the first-page header/footer in the new section to do it on that page.

Adding to what Stefan and Jay have told you, in Word, one usually wants to change Indents, not Margins.

    Margins and Indents in Word

This is different from many other programs.
