I can not get the Standard toolbar and the Formatting toolbar to share the same line in Word 2002

I have old Word 2002 and it works fine.  I have and want my Standard toolbar and the Formatting toolbar on the same line.  For some reason from time to time when I am using Word the two toolbars separate and appear on two different lines.  In the past I just use my cursor to move the lower toolbar back up to the line with the other toolbar and things are fine and corrected.  But for some reason today that does not work.

As you can see in the first picture (above), the Standard and Formatting toolbars are on two different lines.  If I use my cursor to move the Formatting toolbar up and "behind" or to the right of the Standard toolbar, the Standard toolbar then jumps down to the lower row.  I can move them back and forth and never get them on the same line.  It's like magnets repelling each other.  Can anyone help me?

Well, that's interesting. If I clear that check box (in Word 2003), the two rows join into a single toolbar as soon as I close the dialog. I don't have to do any dragging or rearrangement. Since both those toolbars are almost the full width of my screen (and I also have another toolbar beside the Standard one), I can't see all the buttons, but they are definitely in one row.

At a guess, this may be some setting in the Registry. You might try deleting the Word Data or Options key to see if that makes a difference. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/word/issues-when-start-or-use-word for a description of deleting the key (after first exporting it) and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/word/reset-options-and-settings-in-word for more specific instructions.

Right-click on one of the toolbars and choose Customize... In the Customize dialog, select the Options tab. Clear the check box for "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows." The screen shot below is from Word 2003. An earlier version (possibly Word 2002) had different wording, something about "Standard and Formatting toolbars share one row," so you may have to check a box instead of clearing it.

Each toolbar must be on a separate "line"   As an alternative however, you could add all of the commands from one toolbar to the other so that you have only one of the two toolbars.

My window is plenty wide but the first two pictures (above) I only showed the top left part of the window.  Here's my full window.

If your window is not wide enough for them both to fit, they will not. Can you create a wider window?
