Changing Playback Speed of Screen Recording Recorded Within PP Presentation

Hi

I made a screen recording from within a placeholder in a PowerPoint slide and now I want to speed it up. How do I do that, please?

I already found an answer on how to speed up an inserted video MP4, but that cannot be inserted into a placeholder and requires Windows Media Player with its functioning buttons to display in the slide during the presentation. I can't crop those features out so that only the video shows. So, please answer specifically to how to speed up the *screen recording* rather than in reference to inserting an MP4 from a drive or external source (which I have already tried from instructions here). The other reason for this is that, by inserting the file as MP4 and then speeding it up, it means I also cannot add any animations to that video in the slide, meaning I can't have it fade out for another short video to fade in on top. If anyone has a solution to that, please share!

Alternatively, how do I save the screen recording with increased speed so I can insert it into the placeholder from a drive on my PC?

This is Win 8.1 with PP2013.

Thanks.

OK, I actually went and found the answer myself. Seems daft though, not to have the ability to speed up videos directly within PowerPoint seeing as we can trim them, etc. Onto the solution...

    - Save screen recording as an MP4 file.

    - Open Windows Movie Maker.

    - Add your video file to it.

    - Under the Edit tab, set your preferred speed from dropdown menu.

    - Under Home tab>> Save Movie dropdown menu>> For Computer/High Definition (whichever you prefer. Without doing this, your file won't be compatible with PwrPt)>> choose folder location and file name>> save.

    • Your file will be converted into a PwrPt-friendly format and you can now insert it into your presentation.

This apparently also works with VLC, but I haven't used it myself.

    Hi John,

Thanks for responding. I actually just found the answer myself - no online service required!

Off to answer myself now. This takes talking to oneself to new heights!

You can't increase the speed within PowerPoint. Using a good video editor or an online service, you can change the speed of the video file, then reinsert it in PowerPoint.

Yes, that's the "good video editor" option in my reply. Glad you figured it out.
