Retail Microsoft Office Non-Cloud Edition

Short form:

#1: You can buy one-time payment Office 2019 Home and Business, or Professional or a "LTSC" Volume license

#2: You will have to download a single generic "Offline Installer File" that you "sneakernet" to each of the Offline computers for the install

#3: You will have do a "Phone Activation" to complete the install and activation of each offline machine

Gotcha Note #1: when you activate each offline computer, you MUST keep track of the computer name, email account (/ password), and 25 character Product Key used on the specific machine. You need this information to re-install / activate on the same computer or to transfer the license to a new computer in future

Gotcha Note #2: you can use one "generic" administrator email account to activate Office on up to 20 computers.  You do NOT want to use the employee email ID to activate the one time license because when they leave the company and you disable their email you will lose the ability to re-install/transfer that Office license. There is no advantage to using employee ID to activate these one-time payment licenses since the machines are offline and won't be using email/Outlook.com

#2 Offline installer file

AFIK, MS no longer makes installation DVDs.

You will have to download the generic "Offline installation file", then you can sneakernet the downloaded installation file to the other offline computers.

A spate of recent updates caused problems in Outlook and the short-term fix is to uninstall the update; however, updates can’t be uninstalled from the Click-To-Run installations of Office, and almost all users have the Click-To-Run installation.

Instead, you will need to revert to an earlier version.

#3 Phone Activation

The license is made unique when you use the 25 character Product key to "activate" it. For the offline computers you will have to use phone activation to complete the installation.

Activation Phone Support - phone activate

If you have an activation specific error, i.e. things like “invalid” or “blocked” product key, you specifically have to contact the “phone activation” support reps. Apparently “normal” support has no way of transferring you to them … <sigh>

The process you need to follow is rather round about:

· Start normal activation,

· select phone activation option,

· this will display appropriate phone number for your geographic location.

· Phone them

· do NOT reply to initial prompts

· wait, a long time, until you are offered the option of talking to a “service” rep

· explain problem to them

· ask to be transferred to a supervisor when front line support can’t help you

There is no 'none cloud edition' installing 365 or 2019 requires an internet connection, under 365 whether you use OneDrive is optional 

O2007 went out of support Oct 2017 and as of that date no updates of any type
