PowerPoint Undo Bug

As of a few weeks ago, my powerpoint undo has been malfunctioning. Instead of undoing only the last action I made, it undoes several steps at a time, even some that are on other slides than the one I'm working on. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating and has led me to lose a lot of work. How can I fix this?

Hi John- I have tried both CTRL-Z and the button itself, both do the same thing. I would re-do, but sometimes I don't realize it undid changes in multiple other slides with a single undo click, another slide until much later when I have already done new things, so REDO does not work. Please note I am familiar with undo, redo, and ppt, this is a BUG that just started happening where these functions are not working properly

    Hi Tina,

While you say it's expected behavior, this only started happening to me in the last few weeks it did not undo this way before. It's not just undoing one paragraph after entering a few characters, it's undoing changes in previous slides and I don't find out until later that it undid up to 10-20 changes I made throughout the deck.

I will try safe mode and office repair to see what happens.

    Best,

    Laura

    Hi LauraYF,

I could understand the frustration when encountering this issue in PowerPoint and it has affected your work. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

When I test from my side, in some situations it will undo several steps. For example, if I input some characters in a text box, after undo, the whole paragraph will be removed. If we regard each character input as a single step, the behavior will "undo several steps". If you refer to this kind of scenario, it should be expected behavior. Thanks for your understanding.

If you refer to different scenarios that undo undoes several steps at a time, to troubleshoot the issue, you may try following methods:

1.Open PowerPoint application in safe mode, then open your presentation, check if undo works fine. Safe mode helps to determine if the issue is caused by PowerPoint add-ins.

2.Try to Online Repair Office, see if issue can be fixed.

If undo still doesn't work well, could you please confirm information below for further troubleshooting?

1.Could you share some examples of steps you made in PowerPoint that undo undoes at a time, I'd like to test if I can reproduce the issue from my side.

2.What is the version of your PowerPoint? Please click File>Account, capture a full screenshot of Product Information.

3.Does the issue appear in a specific presentation or all presentations? What about if you try a new presentation?

    Appreciate your patience and effort.

    Have a nice day!

    Best Regards,

    Tina

How are you undoing? If you use CTRL z another program may be also using that shortcut.

It is also worth making sure you have the REDO button visible on the QAT to help with losing work.
