Stretchy double arrow ⇌ with top and bottom fields to enter text

Hello All,

as a biochemist, I often draw schemes such as A ⇌ B into Word documents. Most of the time, a text goes above and below the equilibrium arrow (see image). There are stretchy arrows in the formula editor, but these are either single direction or double-headed, the latter one is not correct for equilibria (it is a mesomeric arrow). The easiest way would be to have a stretchy double arrow with separate heads and two boxes. Is there a way to emulate this with Word 2016 or extend the Cambria Math font?

Thank you both, Stefan and Robert, for the quick replies. Unfortunately, none of the solutions has a stretchy arrow. Whether the arrow is of harpoon style or has a full head does not matter for my problem, it really is about the stretchiness and that there are two arrows.

You can use a matrix with three rows for the k(unfold) <double arrow> k(fold) part. It looks far from perfect, though, and there might be a more elegant way.

What you call “stretchy double arrow” is named as “LEFTWARDS HARPOON OVER RIGHTWARDS HARPOON” or

“LEFT HARPOON OVER RIGHT HARPOON” in Unicode. It belongs to the Arrows character block. The code point is  “U+21CB”; the HTML entity’s name is “⇋”. Cambria Math includes such a character.

    HTH.

    Robert
