How can I convert .chk files to their original format?

I removed a jump drive before it was ready and now only have access to a small number of the original files.  I ran chkdsk and now there is a folder on the drive labeledFOUND.000 that appears to have the rest of the files, but they are all labeled FILE0000.CHK, FILE0001.CHK, etc.    The original files were in many formats, Word, Excel, PPT, JPG, etc.

I'm hopeful that I can recover these documents, and appreciate any advice the community can offer!

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for the quick response.

I have an update for you - I searched online and found that others had success with deCHK http://www.techcrawler.de/dechk/index\_en.html

I ran this app and was able to recover nearly all of my data/files.  The app converts the fragments to their original format.  One downside is that all of my original file names are gone, and It'll certainly take some time to go through the nearly 10,000 files recovered, but they were indeed recovered!

Truly appreciate your quick response.  Check out the tool above.  Worked well for me.

    Many thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

CHK files are fragments of corrupted files found on your hard drive, when you run Check Disk, rather than deleting any corrupted data it finds, Check Disk puts the CHK file fragments into the FOUND.XXX folder, sadly, those file fragments cannot be re-constituted into actual files, that data is not recoverable . . .
