SharePoint - Always load major version of document

Hi

When I’m editing a document, for users (including myself) with edit access SharePoint always loads the draft version when clicking on the file.

Is there a way to make SharePoint always load the major version unless I navigate to the minor (Draft) version?

Using it for a process document, so users still need to follow the current version. At present users with edit access have to navigate back to the major version which isn’t ideal.

Thanks, that doesn’t solve the problem though as anyone with edit rights will always see the latest version rather than the latest major version:

    • V1.0 is the published version
    • Owner A creates V1.1
    • Owner B opens the file wanting to see the published version V1.0, but as an owner sees V1.1
    • Visitor (with no edit rights) opens the file and sees V1.0

    Hi,

Really appreciate your time to post back and provide the screenshot with us, as for your concern, we suggest you select Create major versions instead of the second one to see the result again.

All that does is changes the issue to seeing the new unpublished major version instead of the current published version

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience in our community.

In terms of your scenario, my understanding is you want to use the major version unless navigate to the minor version, right? As we are not sure your exact versioning settings, generally we check “Create major versions” via going to Document Library> click Settings> Library settings> Versioning Settings to set the major versions.

Therefore, to better understand your scenario, could you please help confirm some information with us?

    1. Please provide the screenshot of Versioning Settings page.
    2. Whether all SharePoint sites or just a specific site has the problem? Including a new site?
    3. Please capture some screenshots about “always loads the draft version when clicking on the file”?

If there has any misunderstanding, please feel free to let us know any concern, we’ll try best to help you. 😊

    Best regards,

    Gloria
