Why is my word page black?

I opened a document in Microsoft word for windows 10 that I haven't opened in a while. For some reason, the page appears black. I have gone to the design tab to change the page color, but when I click black, the page turns white. I have been trying to edit a document for a family member, but this is causing a problem. Do you know what is going on?

    This is the new Dark Mode in Office. If you have enabled the Black Office theme, you will have a Switch Modes button on the View tab of the Ribbon. For more, see https://insider.office.com/it-it/blog/try-dark-mode-in-word. 

    That link doesn't work because the final period got into the URL. Also, if you don't read Italian, you may prefer the English version: https://insider.office.com/en-us/blog/try-dark-mode-in-word .

    This is because you must have chosen the Dark Theme of the word in recent update.

    You can change the page colour or the theme colour by clicking on WORD> Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools> General> (choose these options choice as you need :

    Turn off Dark Mode

    Dark Mode has dark Page Colour ( dark page is because of this option which is default in dark theme)

    Dark Mode has white page colour

    Well, that's weird on both counts. The page was the top link in a Google search, and it comes up in English for me, with no indication that it has been translated, and I pasted the link directly from the address bar. If the following period got scorped up into the link, then that's another editor problem to report (though I haven't previously had that experience).
