Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
I've had the same issue twice since I started buying digital content. From what I have understood through Microsoft and my bank is that a pre-auth charge is what Microsoft does to ensure that you have the funds in your bank account before the purchase goes through. Once the purchase itself has cleared your bank account the pre-auth charge should return. I'm not sure about how long it takes to return that money to your account because the first time it happened to me I was able to contact Microsoft by email and send them my order number where I requested a refund for this charge. The next day that money was put back into my account but I'm not sure if it was because of my request or because it just finally went through and got returned. Regardless, on my second purchase where it happened again the item I paid for cleared my checking account but the pre-auth charge is still there. Microsoft says that it's the bank that does it and the bank says that it's Microsoft that does it and I tend to lean towards my bank being correct because the charge itself says Microsoft on it and if a bank charges you a hold on anything it would say that it's from the bank not from Microsoft. Now from what I'm understanding and have read over countless hours of investigating is that this charge will be returned to your account within a few days. But if your statement online shows that box White and not gray, then that charge as well has cleared your account and Microsoft is responsible for refunding that money for charging you twice for the same product. Obviously the bank didn't charge you for buying a Microsoft product so at that point you would definitely have to contact Microsoft with your order number and request a refund for the dual charged purchase. This is just my best understanding of the whole situation and I'm still having this problem as I speak.
Hope this helps
