Can anyone suggest an alternative to OneDrive that will give me control of what file on my computer I can store in the cloud?

Microsoft 365 and Office | OneDrive | For home | Windows

    Hello,

OneDrive does sync well with offline files but unfortunately Windows 10 (I suppose through the new update) automatically sets all my files to share on OneDrive, which means I have to manually set all the files I don't want to upload to "Always keep on this device."

I create large media files and related digital production platform files, so OneDrive makes for a very unwieldly workflow, not to mention that Microsoft 365 does not work well on more than one machine (account sync errors are a constant.)

That said, I moving out of the Microsoft Office ecosystem and to a platform that is more attuned to modern cloud tech. Unfortunately, Microsoft is a decade or so behind in this regard.

    Thanks,

    DC

Thanks but the Office backup solution doesn't work for me because I am using two computers to create documents and files. This wouldn't be an issue if Microsoft could figure out a way for users to use Office on more than one computer. Maybe someday....

    Dear DavidCumminsYB,

I am Renzo, as an Independent Advisor and Office user, I'll help you with your question.

There are a lot of tools to sync files to their own clouds the best are(Google Drive and DropBox) but to be really honest, for me OneDrive it's much better.

I have over 6 terabytes of media files for multiple projects and growing. I them backed up on multiple drives, including RAID 5 Drive and on Verbatim BDXL M Disks for archive. The last I looked, OneDrive won't hold all of my media.

    Thanks,

    DC

    Hello Craig,

OneDrive automatically uploads any and all files on my computer. Yes, I can set a file to  "Always keep on this device," but this makes for an unwieldly process every time I create a new file that I don't want on OneDrive. On this front, Google Doc's / Drive and Adobe Cloud provides far better control with Adobe being the easiest to use. Plus, Office 365 sucks across multiple platforms - constant account errors. With Microsoft woefully behind on offering modern cloud tech/services, I decided to migrate to another platform as my Office 365 subscription winds down. I may come back to Office 365 when I'm convinced that Microsoft finally understands the cloud and can build apps that prioritizes user friendly experience over engineers.

    Thanks,

    DC
