Converting ODP format to pptx

I created a presentation in ODP format but when I tried to make additonal changes like adding a animation to a picture, it didn't save the change. I contacted Office Support and an agent saved the presentation in PPTX format but I couldn't select individual elements of the slide. Should I start the presentation again and save it in the PPTX format?

Office has only limited support for ODP files. Yes, you should convert to PPTX to gain access to all of PowerPoint's features.

You'll always get better results from an application by using its native file format. Try .PPTX format.

I created the presentation and saved it in the ODP format from the start. Powerpoint wasn't allowing me to save other changes like picture formatting, that why I got help from Office Support. What if I save the presentation in PPT format?

As JohnK says ODP is not fully suppoted but it should support a simple animation of a picture.

I wonder if at some stage it has been saved as a Picture Presentation? onfusingly this also has a pptx suffix.
