Formatting all my footnote numbers to superscript in my Word Document (Macintosh)

My Word document originally had all my footnotes (and the referenced text to the specific footnote) in superscript. That is the way I wanted it. When I sent my document to my editor, who uses Word on a PC, when she opened the document, the footnotes were no longer in superscript, but normal. So, when she sent the document back to me, on my MAC, I don't see superscript anymore for my footnotes! I have 460 of them! So my question for everyone is:

Is there a way on your Word for Macintosh to quickly change all footnotes in your document (footnote at bottom of page and the number associated with the text that receives the footnote) into superscript?

Thank you.

Stefan mentioned changing the style, not using find and replace.

    1. In Word, choose Home>Styles Pane.
    2. Set the List dropdown to All Styles.
    3. Scroll down to Footnote Reference, then hover your mouse of the bar with the style name.
    4. Click on the down-pointing arrowhead at the right end of the bar and choose Modify Style.
    5. In the Modify Style dialog, click on Format>Font.
    6. Set the Superscript option to be checked. OK out.

    Hi StevenFisher5:

Based on your description, we understand that you want to quickly change all footnotes in your document into superscript, we want to confirm if it looks like the picture below:

However, if you want to adjust the footnotes in the entire document, you can refer to the following steps:

    Customize footnotes and endnotes

After you add your footnotes and endnotes, you can change the way they appear. For example, you can change the number format or where they show up in your document.

On the Insert menu, click Footnote to open the Footnote and Endnote box.

In the Footnote and Endnote box, select the options you want.

Choose where you want to apply the changes—the whole document or the section you’re in—and then click Insert.

Tip: To restart footnote or endnote numbering at the beginning of each section, in the Footnote and Endnote box, click Footnotes or Endnotes, and in Numbering, click Restart each section.

    Hope this will help you.

Thanks, but it seems your advice doesn't show me how to change a footnote number into the superscript format. There is no superscript on/off toggle in the Footnote and Endnote box. Would you kindly specifically tell me how to change my footnote numbers to superscript? The "number format" box doesn't include superscript.

Make sure that the Footnote Reference character style is formatted to include superscript formatting. That should fix the problem. If it doesn't, Footnote Reference isn't correctly applied to the footnote markers in the document, and you will have re-apply the style by using Find & Replace. At least in Word for Windows, you can do so by searching for ^f and replace with the style. See screen shot below.

Thanks, but could you please advise me specifically on my Mac how to verify whether the Footnote Reference character style is formatted to include superscript formatting. What do I do exactly (what steps) to verify this? And how to solve this in Mac, not Windows? Your solution doesn't work in Mac. It would be great if someone could help me with specific steps in Word for Mac.
