    Hello Doug

Thank you so much for trying to help me. Unfortunately I didn't know how to change the settings.

I am trying to open .pdf files that are attached to my Outlook mail, and they automatically open Microsoft Edge. Unless there is a compelling reason I would like my attachments to open in Microsoft Word.

    Kind regards

    Pauline Banfield

If the document is located on OneDrive, you will need to select "Open in Word" from the Open dropdown

If you have not previously checked the box in the following dialog to allow that to always happen

you should check that box and then click on Open Word.

If the document is located on your local drive and when you double click on it, it is opening in Word OnLine (in Edge), you should right click on a Word document and then on Open with and set the Word desktop application as the default application for opening such documents. Alternatively, start the Word desktop application and use the File>Open facility or use CTRL+F12 to access the Open dialog in which you can navigate to and select the file that you want to open.

If you want to open a PDF file with Word, use the File>Save Attachments facility in Outlook to save the PDF file to a folder on your computer and then use File>Open (CTRL+F12) in Word and change the file type to PDF Files (*.pdf) and then navigate to and select the file that you want to open.
