There is no built-in keyboard shortcut. Neither is the command available for assigning one to it using Word's facility or that of the OS. There are 2 options provided in the UI:

    • Right-click one of the selected objects & choose the Group command from there,
    • Use the Group tool in the Arrange group on the Shape Format contextual tab,

Another method is to write a macro to execute the Group command but it does have to be written by someone fluent in VBA, it can't be recorded.

Apparently NONE of the shortcuts work...they all open all pages as does Mission Control. Even the fn fn does not start dictation. This is a disservice to many of us who use Apple primarily because of its productivity aspect. I recommend that Apple should either (A) return to its first love, computers, or (B) focus on cells. CLEARLY IT CAN NO LONGER DO BOTH WELL!

Although I have been a Mac user since it was called Mackintosh,in the 1980s, I am seriously looking for something that meets MY needs.

I'm seeing nothing similar to that behavior. Neither have I recently seen any comparable complaints. Since this is a complaint which differs significantly from your original query please submit a new question under a relevant topic. Be sure to include:

    • Specific release of macOS as indicated in > About This Mac
    • Present Version of Office as indicated in Word> About Microsoft Word
    • What type of keyboard you're using
    • Apparently this is a recent development: What else changed on your Mac at approximately the same time even if it doesn't seem relevant? Software installed/removed? OS upgrade? "System cleaning"?
    • Any additional details can you provide

To select multiple objects, hold the Option key down as you click on them.

To group selected objects, right click and choose Group from the pop-up menu

You can add Group and Group Objects to the Quick Access Toolbar and/or the Ribbon.

As Bob pointed out, you can make a macro for the Group Objects command and assign a keyboard shortcut to the macro.
