Tab Key Going too Far (Word for Windows)

For some reason my tab key has decided to move to the end of the line rather than an inch. No idea what I've done to change it or to get it back. Using Microsoft Windows 10. Thanks

Check if there are any custom tab stops on the horizontal ruler (View > Ruler).

If you have inadvertently added a tab stop, any default tab stops will be cleared (ignored) on the right of the custom one. See screen shot below.

For more on tab stops in general, see http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/SettingTabs.htm.

The typical explanation is that you've accidentally clicked at the end of the Ruler which set a tab stop at that point. If so just clear that stop & the default stops will be restored.

If that isn't the solution please submit a new question to the Community which deals with Word for Windows 10... This is the Word for Mac Community.
