I recently downloaded Microsoft office in y Mac air laptop. I am trying to customize my document properties, but I do not find the File tab. I only see the home and New tab. Where can I find the File Tab?

This is what I see in the doc page

The File menu is in the menu bar just above the Templates Gallery.

Properties are also found by using the menu bar. They're on the Word menu

Please notice that the keyboard shortcut for Properties is shown in the menu.

In Mac Word Document Properties is listed near the bottom of the File menu in the main menu bar, but I don’t believe that’s what you’re actually looking for.

More likely you want the Preferences which are similar to Options in the Windows product. Preferences is listed in the Word menu but not all Win Word settings are available in the Mac product

If you identify what it is that you specifically are looking to do someone can provide you with the necessary guidance.

    Hello Claudia,

I'm Diane, an Office Apps & Services MVP specializing in Outlook, and I’m happy to help you today.

Mac doesn't have a file tab - instructions that mention the File tab are for windows versions.

If forget if document properties are in Preferences or on one of the other menus. I'll boot up my macbook and conform.

For accurate information about Office for Mac, include "for Mac" in quotes in your search terms to eliminate the misleading Windows information.
