Error in VBA script in Excel 2016 on MacOS (Updated 2021-07-31) causes Excel to stop responding.

When an error occurs in a VBA script (subscript out of range in my case), the dialog Alert box that shows up is not accessible since it is put behind the active window or off screen, I have 3 screens on my computer, and the user MUST "Force Quit" Excel.

Maybe there is a way of making the Alert dialog getting focus, but I wasn't able to work out how.

EDIT: I worked that if I make the IDE have 'focus', the dialog box can be controlled using the tab key. So whilst I cannot see it on screen, when I press tab 3 times and the press enter, I make it back to the IDE in debug mode. At least I have a workaround.

The work-around enabled me to achieve my goal, but I'm not very satisfied with the quality of Office on MacOS.

Thanks Elise, what would make ME happy is if Microsoft took more interest in (1) solving some long standing bugs in general instead of rolling out new features, and (2) brought the MacOS product offering to be on par with the Windows version.

While I'm here, I'm going to comment about a serious screen update issue in Excel that makes it look very poor. (Note this is just one example of how to recreate the issue.) After sorting a largish (vertical screen spanning) range of data, the displayed information does not change until I use page-down (or scroll down with the mouse). The issue here is that it is sometimes unclear whether Excel has performed the command or not. This never happens on Windows.

I understand you frustration, at the moment the Mac version does not have features which are available in the Windows version. With each update this is gradually address to so that it becomes more on par with its Windows counterpart.

The only further suggestion I can give is to submit feedback using the in-app help menu.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

Hi, I'm Elise, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

I think the issue is probably due to the multiple screens, the workaround you have is likely the best way to resolve this.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise
