Legacy SharePoint sites

We've been using SharePoint online for a while. The majority of our sites are modern/teams sites (so in the format of https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename). I have recently taken over full admin of our tenant and have today discovered that we have some sites in the format https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sitename,  but these are not listed in the SharePoint admin centre, and they do not show when I run get-sposite either. Is there a way I can easily discover what may be in existence as I want to drag everyone into the modern world, but I need to know what people are using first?

Not sure why the Msft agent is so confused about this - "classic" sites didn't necessarily have sites or teams in the url because generally they were created as subsites. So NONE of our intranet sites did until we switched to modern. In the SP admin center you can select classic sites from the filter drop down. Did you try that? Keep in mind only site collections will be shown - so if these sites were sub sites they won't display. In that case, try going to the "root" site (domain.sharepoint.com) and looking at subsites in site contents. Msft created this classic/modern mess - it would be nice if they paid a bit more attention to helping users sort through it.

However, if you don't mind we requested you kindly upload a screenshot for our reference so we can understand your issue and provide our suggestion in a productive manner, perhaps some related screenshots will be helpful. I did not create them, they were created when we first started using SharePoint online many years ago, and the person who created them has since left the company.

I'm aware of at least two in this old format, but there may be more that I'm not fully aware of. I need to know what these are and who has access.

    Hi AmandaJayne,

As per your description, as far as I know, we cannot create sites with such URL format” https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sitename” and based on my test there is no such URL exists. I believe that why that site is not listed in SharePoint online admin center and when you use command "get-sposite"to show up all sites.

Generally, we create sites with the format “https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename).“

Could you please confirm or share with us how you created such sites because we cannot change URL in SharePoint admin center and we change only the address of the site within the URL. If possible could you please upload a screenshot and also check what action you did before you found.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad
